Iconic RV maker Jayco brought an all-new design to market for 2023 under the Jay Feather brand — the single-axle Volare travel trailer.

John Fisher, directory of product development for lightweight towables, said dealers and retail customers “wanted to see something a little bit different from Jayco and we’ve heard that feedback over the last year-and-a-half, so we decided to delve into a more ‘European’ design. It has a different profile, a very European interior design — and it’s got a lot of unique bells and whistles on it, too.”

Top features on the Volare include eight-sided composite and aluminum construction — including the floor and ceiling — with a one-piece roof, rubber torsion axle, the new Jayco “Rock Solid” stabilizer jacks, full fiberglass front cap, automotive-style windshield, panoramic camp-view windows and the JAYCOMMAND control system with voice-control capability.

At 20 feet in length, the Euro-inspired tilt-forward front design makes the trailer seem longer and roomier than its rather diminutive length. The design also should help the new travel trailer’s aerodynamics and improve the fuel economy of tow vehicles.

Beyond the aerodynamic design, the new Volare also is devoid of a bunch of stuff attached to the exterior. The Dometic air conditioning/heating unit, for example, is a ductless system that doesn’t protrude out of the roof.

Inside, opposing electric sofas in the Volare convert into a queen bed and the whole package is SUV-towable with GVWR falling just below 5,000 pounds, Fisher noted. Interior lighting also sticks to that “European vibe” with a single rail of LEDs that run across the ceiling. “Again, it’s a complete European design in styling on the inside,” Fisher said. “It’s well-appointed with frameless windows. For a small micro trailer, we kind of call it our luxury light-weight trailer.”

The initial floorplan, the 150SS, will be followed by two other configurations, one including a front kitchen.

“It’s got some neat options to it, as well,” said Fisher. “It has perimeter cameras so we’ll have all of these models prepped for towing security. We can add the cameras at the factory if we want, but if not, it’s prepped for the consumer to add them later.”

The Volare also is outfitted with 400 watts of factory solar, 400 amp-hours of lithium batteries, plus an 1,800-watt inverter. MSRP for the new Volare will fall in the upper-$40,000 range.
